Cape Town Hotel School, Cape Peninsula University of Technology

Students are educated and trained as future managers in the hospitality industry. The emphasis is on efficient management, backed by a thorough practical knowledge of the hospitality industry. Practical training is strongly supported by academic courses in Hospitality Management, Hospitality Law, Accounting, Hospitality Management Studies and Hospitality Practice. Students are expected to work in the restaurant connected to the School, under supervision and with the necessary guidance. In this way students will gain valuable experience in the different aspects of food and beverage preparation and service. The core of the learning programme revolves around the development of potential managers with a sound operational background. Operational electives are offered in the second and third year of study to provide for specialized areas within the field of hospitality. The areas of specialization include Accommodation, Food and Beverage and Professional Cookery. The learner will be competent in a variety of operational, interpersonal and analytical skills which supervisors use in carrying out hospitality operations. The learner will have developed a sound foundation to progress into a managerial position. The first year is generic for all the three streams. Specialization starts in the second year.
