MICROS Installs Point-Of-Sale System in Stadium Australia, Venue for the 2000 Summer Olympic Games
BELTSVILLE, Md. – With Over 400 POS Terminals, Stadium Australia Represents the Largest MICROS Installation Worldwide. When Stadium Australia, the Olympic Stadium for the 2000 summer games in Sydney, opened to the largest crowd in history to watch a rugby doubleheader, MICROS Systems, Inc. MCRS set a record for the number of point-of-sale (POS) transactions processed with its 8700 Hospitality Management System (HMS) at one event.
Over 110,000 transactions were processed via the 400 POS terminals in the stadium's 100+ food and beverage outlets, which include restaurants, concessions and luxury suites. Both the number of terminals and the number of transactions completed during the doubleheader were milestones for the MICROS 8700 HMS.
With 62,500 terminals installed worldwide, the 8700 HMS is the most popular POS system used in large, complex hospitality environments such as stadiums, sports arenas, casinos and airports.
The 8700 HMS is a robust POS solution well designed to support transactions in the stadium's multiple revenue centers as well as manage inventory for luxury suites, vending rooms and all food and beverage outlets at the stadium.
The flexibility of the 8700 HMS enables it to support Stadium Australia's variety of concepts including sit-down restaurants, quick service counters, and private suites.
Installation is Worthy of a Gold Medal
Nigel Brown, Information Systems manger for Sodexho Australia, the foodservice operator for Stadium Australia, said that the MICROS solution provides a reliable POS system that is able to process tens of thousands of transactions during short peak periods throughout an event.
"Stadium Australia will not only host the 2000 Olympics, but it will also be used for other major athletic events and concerts. MICROS provided the most flexible and efficient solution for our high-volume requirements given this environment. The efficiency with which transactions were completed during the Stadium's opening proved to us the MICROS no only provides the best technology solutions but also the best support in the industry," said Brown.
According to Stefan Piringer, Vice President for the Asia Pacific Region at MICROS, the 8700 HMS has a proven track record in providing powerful yet easy-to-use solutions in the most vigorous around-the-clock operations. It is installed in the world's biggest stadiums and arenas, more than 70 international airports, and the world's largest hotel-resort-casino facilities.
"Together with its unique ability to handle multiple, high-volume revenue centers, the 8700 HMS offers venues such as Stadium Australia, an easy-to-use and easy-to-train system for operations with large numbers of employees or seasonal staffing requirements," Piringer said.
