BERKELEY, Calif. & PHILADELPHIA--StarCite, Inc., a provider of innovative Web-based technologies and services for the $300 billion global meetings and events industry, today announced its acquisition of RegWeb, a leading Web-based registration tool from Cardinal Communications, Berkeley, Calif.

As part of the transaction, StarCite gains the expertise of key RegWeb creators Rodman Marymor, Katherine "Katy" Dunmire, and Stephen Holland Chang; the management staff; as well as developers, customer support and sales personnel. With the acquisition - StarCite's second - the company expands its staff significantly and gains a new West Coast office.

"While we've been partners for almost two years, our combined technology, talent and vision creates a synergy in this industry that is unprecedented," said Rodman Marymor, CEO and co-founder of Cardinal Communications, and now senior vice president for StarCite, Inc. "The landscape is changing before our very eyes. Our joining of forces is a harbinger for a whole new generation of online tools and technologies for meeting professionals, attendees, and for the global industry," he added.

Extending the strategic alliance that the two companies forged in late 2000, the purchase of RegWeb allows StarCite to strengthen its Integrated Meetings Platform(TM) that tightly consolidates procurement, supply chain management, attendee registration and online air booking with Outtask Cliqbook. StarCite and RegWeb already exchange data, but under a common ownership, the design, integration and features of the combined offering promise to be much more robust and innovative.

"Expanding beyond our premier StarCite Online Marketplace, StarCite continues to make positive strides in providing more complete corporate and planner technologies. This announcement takes us beyond connectivity alone, and allows us to fully unleash the power that our industry desperately needs," said John Pino, founder and chief executive officer of StarCite, Inc. "Combining our visions, and advancing our agenda for a comprehensive, integrated, end-to-end platform is truly exciting."

StarCite's new attendee management division, which combines staff and resources from both companies, will support all StarCite and RegWeb customers - more than 300 companies - that use RegWeb. Besides phone and e-mail assistance, StarCite supports RegWeb products with a unique knowledgebase that allows customers to find answers to common questions or submit new ones. Responses to any new questions are automatically added to the knowledgebase.

Cardinal Communications released the meeting industry's first Web registration tool in 1996 and has continually enhanced and evolved RegWeb to take advantage of the latest technology and meet the maturing needs of customers. Earlier this year, the company released Version 5.0, RegWeb Pro - a complete application rewrite that takes advantage of the latest programming advancements and gives planners more flexibility and control. In the past two years, companies and organizations have used RegWeb to produce more than 4,200 meetings, and register from 10 to as many as 30,000 attendees.

New West Coast Office

As part of the transaction, key employees of Cardinal Communications - including sales, developers, customer support personnel and executives - now join StarCite's new West Coast office in Berkeley, CA. Dunmire becomes vice president of West Coast operations for StarCite, Inc., while veteran RegWeb sales executive Dan Marks becomes vice president of technical product sales for StarCite.
