Doubletree Hotel Houston-Post Oak to Become a Hilton after Multi-Million Dollar Modern Makeover

HOUSTON | Hilton Hotels Corporation (NYSE:HLT - News) today announced that the Doubletree Hotel Houston-Post Oak, located in the heart of the Uptown Houston business district, will be rebranded and renamed the Hilton Houston Post Oak after the completion of a $13 million hotel-wide renovation. The modernization project will begin immediately and is anticipated to be concluded in the first quarter of 2005.
This is part of a six-hotel renovation project by Slohat Hotels L.P., a joint venture of affiliates of USAA Real Estate Co. and Hilton Hotels Corp., which began this summer and will continue through early next year. Other hotels in this enhancement project include the Doubletree Hotel Houston-Allen Center, Doubletree Hotel Overland Park-Corporate Woods in suburban Kansas City, the Doubletree Hotel Anaheim/Orange County in California, the Doubletree Hotel - Downtown Tulsa and the Doubletree Hotel & Executive Meeting Center St. Louis. The hotels are managed by DT Management, Inc., an affiliate of Hilton Hotels Corporation.
"The 300 team members at our hotel are very proud of their Doubletree history and are truly looking forward to celebrating their new Hilton name," said John Binick, hotel general manager. "Our name may be changing but the faces remain the same, which means that the soon-to-be Hilton Houston-Post Oak will be well positioned to continue its dedicated and longstanding tradition of fine service to the Houston community."
The hotel has more than 30,000 sq. ft. of meeting space and 448 guestrooms including several one bedroom suites, two bedroom suites, junior suites and two 3,000 sq. ft. presidential suites. All rooms have balconies with views of Houston's impressive skyline.
When the renovation is completed, the atmosphere at the new Hilton Houston-Post Oak will reflect a more contemporary style that mirrors the original atmosphere of the I.M. Pei-designed hotel. The atrium lobby will be transformed with new seating groups, a new front desk, the addition of a custom designed 850-square-foot area rug, a suspended ring chandelier that will hang nearly seven stories and a significant collection of contemporary art pieces.
Guest rooms will be completely renovated and also will take on a more contemporary feel with the inclusion of sleek, new mahogany furnishings; ergonomic, leather desk chairs, updated bathrooms and a vibrant blue and yellow color scheme. Guestroom corridors will be brightened with new lighting, textured wall treatments and art that is both modern and reflective of Houston. A major refurbishment of the existing fitness center, the addition of a new executive lounge and the installation of high speed internet access in all guest rooms round out the other major hotel improvements being made.
Located only 30 minutes from both Bush Intercontinental and Hobby airports, the soon-to-be Hilton Houston Post Oak is ideal for both business and leisure. The hotel is a 15-minute drive to Reliant Park, the downtown business core, Texas Medical Center and the George R. Brown Convention Center. Guests of the hotel also can enjoy convenient shopping and dining at the Galleria mall and Uptown Park – two of the finest retail destinations in Texas.
