Conrad Hotels NEW

Tokyo, May 2007 Japan’s first Conrad hotel, the Conrad Tokyo, is celebrating its notable inclusion in two of the prestigious Tablet Hotel’s ‘The Tablet 10’.

The influential ‘hot lists’ feature the top ten hotel performers in a range of different categories from ‘Best Hotel Escape’ to ‘Unusual Hotels’. Closely monitored by industry insiders and travelers alike, the Top 10 lists are renowned as the independent and reliable guide to excellent service, food, design, location and value.

Established in 2000 as a comprehensive, easy-to-use online hotel guide and reservation system for discerning travelers, now enjoys more than a million visits a day. Its stellar success is due to a philosophy of selecting unique and noteworthy hotels around the world based on the design qualities, personality and obsessive attention to detail that sets them apart as industry leaders.

“The ‘Tablet 10’ which appears on the website comprise the ten top hotels with the highest ‘Tablet Hotels Meter’ scores rated by hotel guests after a stay at the hotel, not anonymous reviews posted on a website,” explains Conrad Tokyo General Manager, Keith Allardice.

“With hundreds of Tablet hotels under review in real-time, the top ten represent an up to date and unbaised review of the very best in the hotel industry.”

Hotels cannot pay to join Tablet Hotels and are added to the online reservations system only after passing the company’s rigorous anonymous review. The Conrad Tokyo opened in mid-2005 and appeared on Tablet Hotel’s website in June 2006.

The Conrad Tokyo was voted into fifth place in the Tablet 10: Best of Asia (one of only two hotels from Japan on the list) and also appeared in the list for the Tablet 10: Best City Hotels (the sole hotel from Japan to be included in the selection drawn from around the world).

The Conrad Tokyo’s stunning architecture and classic-modern Japanese interior design has already been recognized in a host of other awards and accolades from Condé Nast Traveler, Australian Gourmet Traveller and Business Traveller Asia-Pacific. Ideally located with excellent access to Tokyo’s business, shopping and tourist attractions, the hotel also offers unparalleled access to Japan’s road, rail and air transport network.

Unusually for a city hotel, the Conrad Tokyo enjoys undisturbed panoramic views over Tokyo Bay and overlooks the ancient Edo hunting grounds of Hamarikyu Gardens, the only tidal gardens in Tokyo.

Another unique Conrad Tokyo design feature is its extensive collection of distinctive contemporary Japanese art. Commissioned from twenty-one of Japan’s leading master craftsmen and artists to reflect the hotel’s waterfront and historical garden location, the individual art works from sumi-e (Japanese brush painting) to sculpture are on display throughout the hotel and in private rooms.

“Tablet Hotels recognizes hotels with a special sense of place,” explains Allardice, “and that is something that the Conrad Tokyo combines well with our exceptional service. We are not just another international hotel. When one arrives at the Conrad Tokyo, one has a distinct sense of the very essence of Japanese design and hospitality at every level, from subtle design touches like shoji screens and Japanese wood, to our unobtrusive, attentive staff.”

Tablet Hotels describes the Conrad Tokyo as ‘modern-classic Tokyo style’, the hotel’s vast foyer as ‘a monumental space with sweeping views of Tokyo Bay’ and guest rooms as ‘even more impressive, with novel modernist fixtures and furnishings somehow seeming utterly serious and calmingly conservative, in that way it seems only the Japanese have a handle on’. Conrad Tokyo bathrooms are perfectly described as ‘properly excessive.’

Once on the Tablet Hotel website no hotel rests on its laurels: real-time customer ratings are indicated on each hotel page so any decline in standards is instantly reflected. If a hotel falls below fifteen points out of a possible twenty, it is automatically removed.

“Guests rely on Tablet Hotels to point them to hotels that deliver a special experience. They know that the design of the hotel, the level of service and the style will be the very best available,” says Allardice.
