Yann Caillere is chief operating officer of Accor Hospitality EMEA, in charge of hotel design and construction. Caillère took some time on the heels of Accor's latest earnings statement to chat with HOTELS about the company's growth plans in its home continent of Europe. How have Accor's European hotels performed through the first half of the year, and what are your expectations for the remainder of 2009 when it comes to rate and occupancy? Globally, due to the continued deterioration of the economy, hotel revenues are lower than last year, with a drop both in occupancy and ADR. Nevertheless, countries have not all entered the crisis at the same time and are therefore not in different cycles. Some indeed remain less affected than others.
