Readers of the international trade magazine 'Hotels' have voted the Swiss/Australian 56 year old, Hans Wiedemann, as 'Independent Hotelier of the World 2009'. The magazine 'Hotels' is read in 165 countries and has some 62,330 subscribers. 'Hotels' is the only magazine to cover the global hotel market. The magazine serves owners, directors, architects, designers, developers, investors and financial institutions, in short the branch's decision makers.

On 9th November 2009, the 'Independent Hotelier of the World' prize was ceremoniously presented to Hans Wiedemann. "We feel very honoured by the award. Such a prestigious accolade is a sensational recognition for the achievements of the whole team at Badrutt's Palace Hotel and for our daily work. An award is never just a single achievement, the whole milieu has to be right. In this case a vision, the owners, my family and friends and of course the whole team!" says prize winner Hans Wiedemann. "We would like to thank our colleagues in the industry who have honoured our achievements and visions by their vote and have thus shown us their appreciation. If you look at all these aspects it is once again clear that the prize belongs to all of us!"

Three candidates were nominated for each of The Hotelier of the World categories: 'Corporate' and 'Independent.' Readers of 'Hotels' magazine were able to choose their favourites and send in a voting slip over the course of several months.

Badrutt's Palace Hotel is both a winter and summer destination and offers 159 guestrooms and 38 suites. The hotel is member of Leading Hotels of the World, Swiss Deluxe Hotels and Swiss Historic Hotels.
