The hotel price comparison website surveyed 4,142 people over a two week period (August 13th – August 27th) to discover how they prefer to book their last minute hotel rooms. With travel becoming more digital every day, 85 per cent of participants across eight different countries preferred to book on the internet or via a smartphone app. Just 15 per cent would use more traditional methods of booking through a travel agent or calling the hotel directly.

In the UK, 93 per cent of participants preferred to book digitally – the highest proportion of the eight countries surveyed. 80 percent of these participants would use the internet, and 13 per cent would book via apps. Just 4 per cent would call the hotel directly, and only 3 percent would visit a travel agent. These are the findings of the trivago "How do you book a last-minute hotel" survey.
