Following the successful launch of FREEDOM Check-In powered by OpenWays earlier this year, DOCOMO interTouch is now offering LOCKFIX as part of its standard product offering to support hoteliers in fixing once-and-for-all the security flaw uncovered on certain locks. LOCKFIX can be upgraded anytime to the full FREEDOM Check In solution without any additional hardware investment.

DOCOMO interTouch is a premier technology company providing a comprehensive suite of solutions and network management services for the global hospitality industry and a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTT DOCOMO in Japan. Offered in partnership with OpenWays, the global leader of Mobile Key solutions, FREEDOM Check-In enables travelers to use their mobile hand phone to bypass the hotel front desk and securely open their room doors.

The major security breach – impacting more than four million electronic door locks installed worldwide – is causing alarm among hoteliers and travelers across the globe. First disclosed by Forbes.com and presented at the BlackHat security conference in July, the ability for hackers to open room locks with a device hidden inside a dry erase marker or iPhone case continues to make headlines. Video posted this week on ABC.com shows how easy it is to break into certain electronic door locks used by major hotels. Even more concerning, a recent Crime Alert reports "actual guestroom burglaries and guest thefts" are now taking place. To combat the issue, DOCOMO interTouch is introducing LOCKFIX following independent audits conducted by two security firms confirming the high security level of the solution. Existing FREEDOM Check In Customers impacted by the lock security issue will be upgraded at no cost.

A new White Paper that identifies problems with electronic locks installed in more than four million hotel room doors, and offers an independently security audited "LOCKFIX" also is available.

"By introducing LOCKFIX DOCOMO interTouch is aiming to provide hoteliers with an effective way to regain security over the affected locks while also offering the option to give a second life to the locks," said Charles Reed, CEO of DOCOMO interTouch. "With LOCKFIX and FREEDOM Check-In, hoteliers can upgrade their existing locks to cure the security flaw, neutralize other security issues that were not published by the hacker. Hoteliers can also develop a competitive advantage by addressing the growing guest demand for front desk bypass and offering guests the extra service option for 'straight-to-the-room' check-in.

"This is an example of unforeseen circumstances and we know our hotel partners have not budgeted or planned for such an event," Reed said. "DOCOMO interTouch can provide a technical solution with LOCKFIX and a financing option so that hotels can immediately overcome and eliminate this new risk."
