Hot.E

Burba Hotel Network (BHN), host of the upcoming Hotel Investment Conference Europe (Hot.E) 2016, is pleased to announce that the Hall of Fame Award will be presented to Gabriel Escarrer Juliá. The Hot.E Hall of Fame Award was established to recognize an investor, developer, or hotel leader whose career has had a profound and positive impact on the European hotel industry. The honoree is someone recognized for his or her business success, intellectual leadership, and personal dedication to maintaining the highest professional and ethical standards. Gabriel Escarrer Juliá was 21 when he founded what is now Meliá Hotels International group in 1956. He bought and managed a 60-room hotel on the island of Mallorca, from where he still chairs one of the most successful hotel companies in the world, currently owning or operating over 375 hotels in 42 countries, with almost 100,000 rooms. His visionary character led him to be the first Spanish company to open an International hotel, in Nussa Dua (Bali), which is still a landmark in the destination, and to be a pioneer in the take-off of world-leading destinations like Cancun, Dominican Republic, or Cuba. Later, the company would expand in North America, Asia, and the main cities in Europe. His vision also led the group to develop a comprehensive portfolio of hotel brands, suitable for each customer segment and profile. Above all, Gabriel Escarrer inspired a strong set of family and professional values to the company that have always been the foundation for its growth and resilience to difficulties, and in turn the company is celebrating 60th anniversary in 2016. As a result of his merits and his vast experience in the tourist industry, Gabriel Escarrer Juliá has received numerous acknowledgements, honors, and awards, which demonstrate his important contribution to the national and international hotel business.

"We are honored to be presenting the Hot.E Lifetime Achievement Award to Gabriel Escarrer Juliá," said Jim Burba, president of BHN. "We can think of no more deserving recipient than Mr. Escarrer Juliá, and it is truly exciting to be presenting this award to him at Hot.E in concurrence with Meliá Hotels International's 60th anniversary. His lifelong dedication to the hospitality industry embodies what this award is all about."

Hot.E will be held in London on 26-27 September 2016, at the Hilton London Bankside. For more information about Hot.E, including sponsorship details, visit the website.
