Capita Travel and Events, travel and event management firm, and Maiden Voyage, provider of female business traveller safety solutions, have partnered to certify and showcase hotels that are considered 'female friendly'.

They will be inspecting hotels across the Britain and will be incorporating those that qualify into their hotel programme.

Leigh Cowlishaw, director of supplier partnerships at Capita Travel, asked male and female travellers whether or not they ever felt "at risk". Some 67% of woman said they felt unsafe when traveling, compared with only 19% for men.

Carolyn Pearson, CEO and founder of Maiden Voyage, said: "With [over] 51% of female business travellers having reported feeling vulnerable when staying in a hotel we know that there is a genuine need for a trusted standard.
