Why “smart hotels” shouldn’t become soulless hotels?

As Hotel Tech Accelerates, Human Warmth Matters More Than Ever

Oracle/Skift survey shows 70% of guests prefer human interaction despite 34% of hotels being heavily invested in contactless tech.

Digital transformation in hospitality, from mobile check-ins, digital keys, to IoT-powered smart rooms, is accelerating. According to a 2025 report from Oracle Hospitality + Skift, about 34 % of hoteliers said they are “already heavily invested” in contactless technology, with another 26.6 % in “early stages.”

But as an article in Hotel Dive points out, “the loss of human touch” is the No.1 concern for consumers when hotels deploy AI-based services. According to a Reputation survey of more than 760 U.S. consumers, many reject not the technology itself, but cold, impersonal service. And a 2025 “Hotel Room Insights” survey from Hotels.com found that a significant 70% of those hotels reported that their guests still prefer human interaction, especially at check-in or when needing assistance.

That matters deeply for high-end hotels and resorts: luxury is not just about seamless check-in or mobile convenience. It’s the warmth of welcome, the feeling of being cared for, the subtle ritual of arrival, and those touches often come from people, not robots.

That’s why we believe sustainable, locally inspired key cards, thoughtfully curated guest-room amenities, and personalized cultural design are more than nice add-ons, because they’re essential to restoring personality, locality and warmth to the stay. Small, tangible signs that someone cared.

As the industry races for automation and scale, now is the time to champion the “touch of humanity.”
