MENLO PARK, Calif., As the travel industry seeks creative ways to manage costs in the current economy, GetThere(TM), a Sabre company, announced today that it has already helped the Carlson Wagonlit Travel Associate Division launch 100 corporate online Web booking sites. Through Carlson Wagonlit Travel's Associate (franchised) agencies, these GetThere booking sites are delivered to small and medium-size businesses. It is the first time a major travel company has delivered online corporate travel technology to help its individual franchise agencies provide cost-saving online booking as strategic part of their corporate travel service offerings.

The technology provided through Carlson to the agencies is based on the same industry-leading technology that GetThere provides directly to more than 800 large corporations, including more than half of the Fortune 200 companies. It allows employees to book their business trips online, while automatically enforcing company policy, utilizing negotiated corporate rates, and offering low-fare alternatives. Corporations often reduce travel costs by more than 20 percent by using online technology. Carlson Wagonlit Travel Associate's exclusive program offers small and medium-size companies affordable access to online technology that was initially available only to large corporations.

"With the economy placing increased pressure on travel management firms and corporations, they are looking for ways to more effectively manage their costs, and our GetThere-based product has proven its ability to offer cost savings," stated Bill Van De Laarschot, vice president of marketing for Carlson Wagonlit Travel Associate Division. "We believe we have found a way to make online booking even more valuable, as well as a way to position Carlson Wagonlit Travel Associates to endure today's economy and succeed in the future. The flexibility of the GetThere DirectMidMarket tool is already allowing our Associates to offer this leading booking technology regardless of the global distribution systems their offices utilize."

"Online travel reservation technology has proven to be one of the greatest cost-saving opportunities for corporations, as it is often one of their largest expense areas. We have seen companies save millions of dollars a year using GetThere technology," said Jeff Palmer, chief operating officer at GetThere. "Carlson Wagonlit Travel's Associates now have the ability to extend this opportunity to small and medium-size companies in a way that helps make online booking a part of their corporate travel management programs."

How It Works

Using GetThere DirectMidMarket technology, GetThere runs a "master" online booking site for the Carlson Wagonlit Travel Associate Division. When an Associate signs up one of its corporate customers for the online program, Carlson Wagonlit Travel and GetThere create a "sub-site" that can be accessed over the Internet only by the Associate agency and the employees of their corporate customer. The site can have a corporation's logo and custom look and feel, and provides complete air, car and hotel booking, including low fare alternatives to an employee's request. GetThere DirectMidMarket enforces policies specified by the corporation, and can present employees with special fares and prices that the Associate agency or corporation have negotiated with travel suppliers. By maintaining all the data online, it allows the Associate agency and their corporate client to review trends in their travel in real- time to find additional savings. The Associates can connect the booking site to any of the major global distribution systems.
