Meliá Hotels International Ratifies Its Leadership As The Hotel Company With The Best Reputation In Spain According To Merco
Gabriel Escarrer, Executive Vice President and CEO, jumps to 26th place in the ranking of business leaders by reputation

Meliá Hotels International remains among the 20 companies with the best reputation in Spain and for the seventh consecutive year leads the Merco Empresas y Líderes ranking for the hotel industry. The company led by Gabriel Escarrer - ranked 26th out of 100 business leaders by reputation - is the only travel company included in the Ibex 35 and has once again demonstrated its brand strength and the recognition of its stakeholders.
Merco is the leading reputation monitor in Ibero-America due to its independence and impartiality, and analyses almost 200 management indicators, for the first time this year also including commitments to gender equality and to domestic investments and employment. The research is complemented by more than 47,000 stakeholder surveys.
Meliá Hotels International ranked 19th among the top 100 companies with the best reputation thanks to a positive assessment of its internationalisation, financial strength, brand positioning, product quality, digital transformation and other hugely important intangibles in its current strategy such as corporate responsibility throughout the entire value chain, environmental commitment and combatting climate change, talent management, diversity or progress in corporate governance.
According to Escarrer, "our 2020 vision is to be seen as a benchmark for sustainability and corporate responsibility and to strengthen our leadership in the leisure and urban-leisure hotel industries, prioritising our financial strength, digitalisation and the creation of shareholder value". He added that the results announced by Merco, one of the most prestigious monitors in the world, "confirm that we are sailing in the right direction and that we are meeting the expectations of our stakeholders."
This month, Meliá Hotels International has also received two other major awards, being named seventh strongest global hotel brand in the Hotels 50 2019 study carried out by Brand Finance, and also the most attractive hotel company for Spanish university students, according to Universum.
Another recent milestone achieved by the company that further supports its global reputation was inclusion in the Sustainability Yearbook 2019 by RobecoSAM, the sustainable investment agency responsible for the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, which named Meliá the third most sustainable hotel company in the world and placed it in the Silver Class category.
The Merco ranking was prepared by Análisis e Investigación, the leading Spanish market research institute, and the methodology used for ranking companies by reputation has been independently reviewed by KPMG in accordance with ISAE3000 standards.
