That has been true many times over for this week's Member Spotlight feature Tom Vickstrom of Nashville, Tennessee, who has been a member of HFTP since 1991.
How long have you worked in the hospitality industry?
I was lucky to have a childhood friend whose family owned a resort on Cape Cod called The Lighthouse Inn and as a teenager, I started working there during summer vacations. It wasn't until college at Florida International University in Miami that I realized hotel accounting was the right industry niche for me to pursue as a career. Sheraton's management training program provided a great career start that eventually led to a 20-year run across six cities. I was then very fortunate to come to an independent hotel in Nashville in 2003 as director of finance and now am approaching retirement here at The Hermitage.
