Our industry appears to be in a state of contradictions that indicate a bullish future but a bumpy road along the way.

Some segments continue to rise in relative contribution; others are flat or slightly shrinking. Major chains continue to launch novel franchising opportunities with mounting tension over owners to fund property improvements, while new upstart brands or small groups likewise expand their footprints.
