Guangdong Province, one of the economic powerhouses in south China, raked in 132.5 billion yuan (US$15.96 billion) in tourism revenue last year, placing top in the country. Guangzhou will host it first international sports event "Asia Games" in 2010, the city will invest about 220 billion yuan (US$26.6 billion) in the run-up to the event to improve infrastructure, and build an athletes' village. It has about 7,000 guesthouses and hotels capable of accommodating 100 million tourists and is placed first in the country for having 145 five-star and four-star hotels.
