The 10th annual Shatterproof Hospitality Heroes Reception will take place during the 2027 Americas Lodging Investment Summit (ALIS) conference. This year, we are proud to honor Barry Sternlicht, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Starwood Capital Group, for his leadership, impact on the hospitality industry, and support of Shatterproof’s mission. The evening will also recognize the hospitality companies and leaders who continue to stand alongside Shatterproof in our work to end the addiction crisis.
Shatterproof was founded in 2013 to reverse the addiction crisis in the United States. Since then, the organization has made an unprecedented impact by improving the quality and accessibility of addiction treatment, reducing the stigma associated with substance use disorder, and providing education and resources around prevention, treatment, and recovery. At the heart of Shatterproof’s strategy is helping families today while driving lasting change to protect generations to come.
The hospitality industry is disproportionately affected by addiction to drugs and alcohol. Employees in the accommodations and food services industry experience some of the highest rates of substance use disorder, with 17% reporting a past-year substance use disorder. Alcohol-related challenges are also disproportionately represented within the industry, with 15% of employees experiencing serious alcohol-related problems. The Hospitality Heroes Reception brings the industry together to help change these statistics and create a healthier future for employees, families, and communities.
