Guide for Panel Council Members
Create viewpoints and build your expert community
As a Panel Council Member, you're the curator and moderator of industry conversations. You formulate the viewpoints that spark discussion, invite experts to join your panel, and help shape the discourse on topics that matter to hospitality.
This guide covers everything you need to know about creating viewpoints, managing your panel, and participating in the discussions you start.
Getting Started as a Panel Council Member
As a Panel Council Member, you shape the conversation on your panel by creating viewpoints that spark meaningful discussion among industry experts.
Council Members are selected and invited by Hospitality Net. Once your permissions are added by an administrator, you'll see a new section in your dashboard sidebar: World Panel.
Your Dashboard
The World Panel dashboard shows several sections:
- My Panels - All panels where you're a Council Member or Expert (panels where you're on the Council show a trophy icon)
- My Viewpoint Submissions - Viewpoints you've created and their status
- Viewpoints Awaiting My Response - Viewpoints where you can participate as an Expert
- My Recent Views - Your last 10 published expert views
At the top right, you'll find an Update Author Profile button for quick access to your profile settings.
Creating Viewpoints
To create a new viewpoint, click the Submit Viewpoint button next to your panel name in the My Panels section.
The Viewpoint Form
You'll need to provide:
- Title - A clear, engaging title (e.g., "The Future of Sustainable Hospitality")
- Question - The statement, proposition, or question that experts will respond to. Use the rich text editor to format your viewpoint with bold, italic, underline, or links.
Tip: Make your viewpoint interesting, focused, and challenging. The best viewpoints are provocative enough to elicit diverse perspectives but clear enough that experts understand what you're asking.
After Submission
Click Submit for Review when you're ready. Your viewpoint goes to "Pending Review" status where a Hospitality Net administrator will review it and schedule it for publication.
The admin schedules viewpoints strategically to avoid overwhelming experts with multiple viewpoints at once, ensuring each gets the attention it deserves.
Once approved, you'll receive an email with:
- The scheduled publication date
- When expert invitations will be sent (typically 7 days before publication)
Your viewpoint status will change to "Scheduled" with the publication date visible in your dashboard.
Managing Your Panel
Click View Panelists next to your panel name to see all Council Members and Experts on your panel.
Inviting New Experts
At the top of the panelists drawer, you'll find the invite link section. Click Generate Invite Link to create a unique URL you can share with potential panel members.
This link can be shared via email, LinkedIn messages, or any other channel. Recipients can use it to request membership in your panel.
Copy the link: Click the copy button to grab the URL and share it wherever you'd like.
Return anytime: The link persists, so you can always come back to the View Panelists drawer to copy it again.
Regenerating Your Invite Link
If you need to create a new invite link, click the regenerate button. This invalidates the old link and creates a fresh one.
When to regenerate: If you suspect a link is being shared inappropriately or used in ways you didn't intend, regenerate it to maintain security.
Multiple Council Members
Some panels have multiple Council Members. All Council Members can submit viewpoints for the same panel. Since each viewpoint needs admin approval and scheduling, this coordination happens automatically—the admin ensures viewpoints are spaced appropriately.
Participating as an Expert
As a Panel Council Member, you're also invited to participate as an Expert on your own viewpoints—and potentially on other panels as well.
Seven days before your viewpoint is published, you'll receive the same invitation email that all panel experts receive, with a unique link to submit your view.
Your pending viewpoints will appear in the Viewpoints Awaiting My Response section of your dashboard.
For complete details on submitting views, managing the 200-word limit, using View Articles, and editing your submissions, see the Submitting Your View guide.
