It's our monthly wrap-up with HFTP President John Cahill. We caught with John at the recent AH&LA Annual Convention in Philadelphia, April 3 & 4, and he has plenty to talk about. John gets us up to date on HITEC 2002 in Chicago, which includes "Ask The Aliens" (no kidding). Planning on taking the CHAE or CHTP tests? It's a little different this time around. We'll hear why.

John Cahill - Profile

John J. Cahill, CHTP, CHA is the CIO at Manhattan East Suite Hotels. He joined them in 1999 after serving as Senior Vice President of Information Technology for Inter-Continental Hotels and Resorts. Mr. Cahill has been in technology for thirty-seven years, the last thirty-two in the hospitality industry. He spent sixteen years with ITT Sheraton Corporation and fourteen at Inter-Continental Hotels & Resorts.

He is the 2001-2002 President of HFTP, has been a member since 1981 and was Chairman of the 2001 HITEC in Orlando.

Mr. Cahill is the co-author of the text, Managing Computers in the Hospitality Industry, published by the Educational Institute of AH&MA, which is currently being used by more than 250 Universities worldwide.

In recognition of his lifetime contributions to the advancement of hospitality technology, Mr. Cahill was inducted into the International Hospitality Technology Hall of Fame in 1993, and elected an Officier de la Confrérie des Amis de l'Hôtellerie et de la Restauration Internationales by the International Hotel & Restaurant Association in 1998.

Mr. Cahill has been an Adjunct Professor of Management at New York University and has guest lectured on hospitality subjects at Cornell University, Institut de Management Hotelier International in Paris, Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne, as well as for the Hotel, Restaurant & Institutional Management programs at Michigan State University, the University of New Hampshire, University of Houston, University of Delaware and Johnson & Wales College.

Mr. Cahill has been a featured speaker at conferences organized by the AH&LA, HFTP (Hospitality Financial & Technical Professionals) including HITEC, the IH&RA (International Hotel & Restaurant Association) including EURHOTEC, the National Restaurant Association, UFTAA (United Federation of Travel Agent Associations), CHA (Caribbean Hotel Association), and HSMAI (Hotel Sales & Marketing Association International). He has served on and/or chaired the AH&MA Technology Committee for years.
