NEW YORK, NY (October 18, 2001) - Daphne's, the London restaurant long a favorite haunt with celebrities, socialites and even royalty, will open its first restaurant in Barbados this winter at Tamarind Cove hotel on the island's glamorous west coast. Tamarind Cove, a spectacular property where an intriguing blend of European style is artfully combined with the magic of the Caribbean, is part of the Elegant Hotels Group , the largest hotel operator in Barbados.

A welcome addition to this already elegant property, Daphne's Barbados will combine the fine cuisine and eclectic menu associated with this culinary icon together with a truly idyllic beach side setting. Daphne's, a London landmark, will retain its well-known identity and excellent reputation but unite it with the relaxed atmosphere of the Caribbean to provide a unique combination of sophistication and simplicity.

The restaurant has secured the talented British chef Kelly Jackson, who previously worked with the Four Seasons Hotel Group and has experience in London, Australia and the Caribbean.

The hotel has begun construction on the restaurant and plan to complete it by December, in time for the popular winter season. The restaurant will replace Bamboo, which was an informal, Bajan-style restaurant and bar. Martin Brudnizki Design Studio Ltd (MBDS) have been appointed to design the restaurant. Martin Brudnizki has chosen a primary color palette of ochre, gold and brown, derivative of the original Daphne's in London, punctuated with accents of red, bronze & green reflecting its Caribbean location. The furniture and fittings have all been designed in-house at MBDS and made by craftsmen in Indonesia, using an abundance of Teak and Coconut wood to add that Caribbean flavour and to withstand the tropical climate. The restaurant will accommodate 150 covers with seating in the bar for a further 30 people. MBDS is responsible for the interiors of numerous London bars clubs & restaurants.

Tamarind Cove has 164 rooms, each with either a pool/garden view or an ocean view. The spacious rooms have their own private balcony or patio and are decorated in soft tropical colors and with rattan furnishings. The honeymoon suites even have their own private plunge pools. All rooms and suites feature air conditioning, bath and shower, hairdryer, satellite television, clock radio, minibar and personal safe. In addition to Daphne's Barbados, the hotel has two restaurants, Tangiers and Sasso.
