Historic Nisbet Plantation, Nevis Undergoing Renovation
Nevis, W.I., Nisbet Plantation, recognized by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler as one of the “World’s Best Places to Stay” is undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation to improve the resort’s luxury experience. The renovations are also designed to enhance the resort’s historic charm and peaceful ambiance. Nisbet will re-open for the fall season at the end of October.
Major renovations include:
- Conversion of two cottages into a fitness centre, with new, state-of-the-art exercise equipment
- Creation of an intimate massage treatment room
- Air conditioning of the 1778 Great House
- A large hot tub offering dramatic views of the ocean is being installed next to the beach pool
- Softer outdoor lighting throughout the property
- Beach pool and bar decking all new and expanded
- All new designer soft goods throughout the cottages
- Renovated bathrooms (Premier and Deluxe, Great House and Beach)

The first notable transformation of the resort’s romantic ambience will unfold at night with soft lighting on the Avenue of the Palms creating a romantic backdrop for guests dining on the porch of the elegant 18th century Great House. For guests seated in the interior dining room of the Great House, the historical charm, décor and atmosphere will be complemented with new air conditioning.
Refurbishment of the cottages is nearing completion. The cottages interior décor combines soothing tropical hues of papaya and lime with wicker furniture. Soft goods include new bedspreads; dust ruffles; roll pillows and pillow shams; bedside lamps and rugs; patio chairs and tables, and bathroom fixtures. In the top “Premier” category of guest rooms, all the sleeper sofas are slated to be replaced.
Wellness and health are also motifs of the product enhancements. A new fitness centre with garden views of the Avenue of the Palms will offer cardiovascular and strength training equipment. Nestled among tropical foliage and a bubbling water garden will be the resort’s new spa treatment room offering a selected array of soothing massages and therapeutic treatments.
In the Coconuts poolside restaurant area and Sea Breeze beach bar, renovations include all new expansive decking; a new hot tub at the pool that overlooks the ocean; new furniture (new bar stools, tables and chairs); enhancement of the beach public restrooms and new paint and ceiling fans in Coconuts Restaurant.

Nisbet Plantation’s beautifully restored Great House — which dates from 1778 is the ancestral home of Fanny Nisbet, wife of Admiral Horatio Nelson, Britain’s most revered and famous naval hero.
