Largest Hotel On West Coast Waterfront, The Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego, Names New Resident Manager
SAN DIEGO WATERFRONT | Robert Purdy has been named Resident Manager at the largest hotel on the west coast waterfront –and the largest hotel in all of Southern California, the 1,625-room Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego on San Diego Bay. It is the second largest Hyatt in the world and has San Diego’s two largest hotel ballrooms and its largest exhibit/multipurpose hall.
Purdy has served Hyatt for over 20 years in a variety of executive sales positions, and he joins General Manager Ted Kanatas in overseeing day-to-day operations at the hotel, which expanded in August 2003 from 875 rooms to 1,625-rooms and now has 150,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 25,000-square-foot, rooftop pool deck.
“Robert recently served as Executive Director of Sales for Hyatt Resorts nationally and brings substantial experience onboard that is essential for successfully hosting over one million guests, visitors and convention attendees a year," said Kanatas. “We are very pleased to have Robert join the team.”
This is a return trip to San Diego for Purdy, who in 1993 was Director of Sales at the Hyatt Regency San Diego, the forerunner to the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego. Purdy went on to serve in top sales positions at several Hyatts before moving to Hyatt’s Chicago headquarters to direct sales for all Hyatt Resorts. Purdy’s first job with Hyatt was as a Corporate Management Trainee at the Hyatt Regency Fort Worth.
Purdy is a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management. Purdy and his wife are proud parents of triplets.
