Certified Lodging Security Director (CLSD) Revision now Includes New Information on Terrorism, New Format for Study Materials

The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) has been working with the AH&LA Loss Prevention Committee, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and other agencies to update its current security certifications and to develop new programs designed to provide hospitality security personnel and other employees with information on terrorism awareness and anti-terrorism preparedness.

The Certified Lodging Security Director (CLSD) is the first product to reflect the new information. The CLSD review materials and exam now include new information from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on terrorism threats and hazards and protective measures for lodging; USA PATRIOT Act information; information from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) on standards important to security directors; Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) information; and Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance standards affecting security.

"The anti-terrorism part of hotel security training is long overdue. It should be incorporated as part of all current certification programs," stated Chad Callaghan, Marriott International's vice president, global safety & security-Americas, and global support services, and a member of the AH&LA Loss Prevention Committee.

In addition to the updated content, the format of the review materials has been revised to the new easy-to-use exam preparation booklet layout used for some of AHLEI's most popular certifications, including CHA and CFBE.

Other AHLEI security products that will include the new terrorism awareness information include the Certified Lodging Security Officer (CLSO) and three new online training programs targeted to anti-terrorism measures for hotel properties. These will be released in late 2010 and early 2011.

The CLSD is targeted toward hospitality professionals who serve as security directors at property level; or corporate executives employed by a firm responsible for the operation of three or more properties, who serve as regional or corporate directors of security, or have ultimate corporate responsibility for security and / or risk management issues. Pricing for the CLSD is $350 for AH&LA members; $475 for nonmembers. For complete eligibility requirements, prerequisites, and application process, visit or call the AHLEI certification department at 888-575-8726 or 407-999-8100.
