trivago: Lower Hotel Rates In Europe’s Leading Cities
European hotel prices have fallen 16 percent in November, from last month’s average of 103 pounds to 86 pounds. All of the tHPI’s top 50 cities are offering lower hotel rates this month, and travellers can find favourable deals in typically expensive cities such as Paris, Rome, Venice and Madrid. In the UK, rate reductions are occurring country-wide.
London, The European hotel industry is experiencing a fall in prices this month. Travellers are paying an average of 86 pounds per night for a standard double room, which represents a 16 percent decline in comparison to last month. This brings the average rate 9 percent below last year’s November Index price of 95 pounds. November is a popular month for autumn sightseeing trips to city destinations, and this month finds hotel prices on the side of the consumer: all of the tHPI’s 50 most popular cities, such as Budapest (54 pounds), Brussels (78 pounds), and Lisbon (70 pounds) are listing lower accommodation costs in comparison to October.
Country-wide rate reductions in the UK
Average accommodation costs in the United Kingdom have fallen 11 percent this month, from October’s high of 103 pounds per night to November’s 92 pounds. Ten of the UK’s 12 largest cities experienced falling prices, with the only exceptions being Liverpool (up two percent to 87 pounds) and Cardiff (no change, 99 pounds). The largest disparities are to be found in Blackpool (59 pounds) and Bristol (89 pounds), both of which have fallen 25 percent from October. Important reductions are also occurring in Glasgow (76 pounds, -12%), Edinburgh (95 pounds, -12%), Birmingham (61 pounds, -12%), and Leeds (75 pounds, -13%). Even the capital, which rarely reflects the price trends present in the rest of the UK and Europe, is experiencing lower hotel rates; London accommodation costs are down 6% to 133 pounds per night.
Sinking hotel prices in European cities
Significant price reductions can be found in Europe’s most popular tourist cities this month, with all 50 cities in the tHPI experiencing rate reductions between 6 and 44 percent. In Budapest and in Krakow, an overnight stay in a standard double room costs 54 pounds, and therefore 19% and 21% lower than in the previous month. The same is true in Prague, where prices have fallen 23 percent to 70 pounds. Prices in the popular destinations of Paris (118 pounds, -23 percent) and Madrid (87 pounds, -14 percent) show additional declines over the past month. Many Italian cities are also offering cheaper hotel rates to November travellers; Venetian prices have fallen 44% percent to 97 pounds, Rome has seen declines of 31 percent (down to 96 pounds), and Bologna’s rates have sunk23 percent to 82 pounds per night. Greek hotel rates have reached their lowest point this year with an average of 72 pounds per night.
