Suburban Inns CEO Starts New Venture

Peter D. Beukema, CHA, Visionary and CEO of Suburban Inns, has decided to step down as leader of the family-owned business to start his own hospitality company. He will remain an owner of Suburban Inns.

HUDSONVILLE, Mich - Peter D. Beukema, CHA, Visionary and CEO of Suburban Inns, has decided to step down as leader of the family-owned business to start his own hospitality company. He will remain an owner of Suburban Inns.

His new company, the name of which is to be determined, will include: CityFlatsHotel in Holland, which became part of t he Suburban Inns portfolio in 2019 and is now part of the Tapestry family of hotels; a Hampton Inn and Suites under development in Manistee and set to be completed spring of 2023; and several other emerging hotel ventures.

“My goal is to develop new hospitality venues in unique locations,” Beukema said.

Under Peter Beukema’s tenure, Suburban Inns has won numerous awards for employer of choice and product quality and service. All of the company’ hotels are in the top 15% of their respective brands. The Embassy Suites and Hilton Garden Inn Grand Rapids along with the Courtyard by Marriott are the number one hotels in their brands. Suburban Inns has won the 101 Best and Brightest Companies award for the past 5 years, and Suburban Inns was the first hospitality company in West Michigan to win such an award. Peter has won the Grand Rapids Business Journal’s 40 under 40, and has been named to the publication’s Grand Rapid’s Top 200 list since its inception.

Suburban Inns will continue to own and operate its existing hotels and restaurants in Holland, Grand Rapids and Midland. Brian Beukema, Peter’s brother, will return to the role of CEO of Suburban Inns that he previously held.
