We Need Hotel Rooms for Displaced Families — Source: The Bench

Dear industry colleague,

I am writing to you to see if you can help us find hotel rooms to support some of the despairing families who have been displaced recently due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. If you or anyone you know is able to assist (feel free to share or forward this article), we are looking for room contributions from hotels operating in Austria, Germany, Hungary, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and The Czech Republic.

Hospitality-Helps.org has been created by a handful of hospitality industry veterans, to facilitate the hotel industry in making rooms available for those who are seeking shelter and have been displaced from Ukraine. Dozens of families have already sought refuge through this initiative, and hundreds are expected to be accommodated in the coming few days.

To join the initiative, you can contribute hotel room nights by clicking here. This will take you directly to our room reservation platform powered by HotelSwaps. Simply complete the Hotel Participation Form. Any hotel located in receiving countries can participate by donating rooms in their hotels to host the displaced families. There is no minimum required room nights donation, but 5 rooms for 5 nights would be a good start. Reservations will each be of up to 5 nights in double rooms. There may be requests for additional beds in some rooms and hotels can accommodate where possible.

According to the UN, more than 600,000 people have fled Ukraine. Most of these are women and children, occasionally accompanied by senior family members. They are traumatised, tired, scared, and fear of their loved ones who have been left behind.

Many of us have been left feeling helpless. However, I have limitless faith in our incredibly resilient hospitality industry. And I know if we can all work together, we can help in so many impactful ways. My colleagues Michael Widmann and Christian Walter of PKF Hospitality Group are spearheading this initiative, and we’re utilising Preben Vestdam’s proven technology of HotelSwaps to facilitate room bookings, whereas Gernot Leonhartsberger and his team at Moodley are working on the branding along with many others who have volunteered to help. We are working hard to bring together families who are on the run, with hotel owners and operators who can provide shelter for a few nights.

Thank you for your help.
