The Business Travel Association (BTA) has today revealed that in the first week of April 2022, domestic and international business travel fell compared to the previous week.

Data from Travelogix shows that travel slowed as business hours reduced for the Easter break. International and domestic business travel in the first week of April reduced by 46.10% of 2019 levels.

Clive Wratten, CEO of the BTA said: “we understand that growing to full capacity will take time and we are working with TMCs to ensure a smooth recovery process.”

The data also reveals that there has been a £2.80bn GDP loss associated to domestic and international travel* compared to the same week in 2019 due to a reduced number of business travel trips.

The data shows that in the first week of April, the lower levels of business travel to:

  • France have cost UK GDP £535 million
  • Germany have cost UK GDP £475 million
  • USA have cost UK GDP £348 million
  • Republic of Ireland have cost UK GDP £267 million, and
  • Singapore have cost UK GDP £203 million this week.

The data also shows a noticeable reduction in active cases of Covid per 100k of population in 9 of the 10 countries followed by the Business Travel Tracker.

The thirty seventh edition of the BTA’s Business Travel Tracker can be found here.
