The Planet is our main Guest: Dorchester Collection Inspires Luxury Hotels with their Sustainability Achievements

The following publication is part of a series of 7 pieces prepared by Glion's IHB Masters students during a one-day workshop aiming at highlighting the potential of the hospitality industry to contribute to the achievement of the UN SDGs by 2030. All figures, data and initiatives are fictitious and were created by students in the context of an immersive and transformative learning experience where students generated ideas and propositions that transcend the conventional thanks to the simulation of a professional conference taking place in 2030.

This piece focuses on SDG 13, Climate Action. Students created a case around Dorchester Collection to investigate how the luxury group could become a leading climate-friendly company contributing to limiting climate change. From the adaptation of the hotel infrastructures to the creation of a Green Fund in collaboration with local authorities to promote luxurious public transportation systems, they highlighted the potential of creative and innovative initiatives to make luxury and sustainability compatible.

Last June 7th, 2030, Dorchester Collection (DC) organized a panel discussion with the theme of "Climate Champions: Celebrating the Hotel's SDG-13 Achievements".

The panelists were Government Representative, Mr. Carlos Garcia, DC Chairmain, Mr. Guillaume-Victor Laplace, Chief People Officer, Ms. Victoria Nadal, and Chief Sustainability Officer, Mr. Nikansh Jhaveri.

For the past years, the hotel accomplished tremendous amounts of sustainability goals for Climate Action. This includes covering the properties with plants to lower inside temperature, using solar panels to produce sustainable energy, training employees to become aware of the sustainability practices, tree day planting every 3 months, free usage of bikes for guests and employees, and many more. As part of their growth strategy, they have renovated their landmark properties to align with these mentioned sustainability practices, and built new no emissions hotels last 2022 in Dubai and 2028 in Bahrain. With their consistent efforts, the hotel group confirmed that they are implementing more initiatives that are under a responsible path to become climate neutral.

Continuing to be impactful and to be in one with nature. This is what Dorchester Collection aims to be, as they responsibly expand while ensuring a seamless social integration within the local communIties. Parting a message to the future, they outstand holding sustainability responsibility as this lead the niche hospitality industry towards a meaningful vision of luxury.
