How Has Hotel Tech Adoption Accelerated Because of COVID?
As market dynamics changed at breakneck speed, and consumer demands pivoted, hoteliers around the world found that they were reaching out for tech solutions to help them adapt to these new challenges and accelerate as demand returned.
Here, three hoteliers from around the world talk to Duetto and offer their industry insights on tech adoption and the pandemic:
Victoria Curley, Group Revenue and Distribution Manager, Roomzzz Aparthotels:
COVID highlighted gaps in tech stacks because we all had to accelerate what we were doing so quickly. We suddenly realized what was missing from what we had that our customers were screaming out for, and things that were already in our current tech stack that we maybe weren't using to their full capacity.
We went through a full review and spent some time going in-depth on what's working, what's not working, what do we want to change? And for us, the result has been that we are changing our property management system because we’ve found that it's not where we need to be in the business right now.
Ryan Dance, Group Revenue Director for Malmaison, Hotel du Vin, and Frasers Hospitality:
One of the immediate things that we were able to bring in because of the impact of COVID was the order and pay scenario for our food and beverage outlets. We were able to accelerate that deployment of that piece of technology, which before COVID, would've taken us a very long time.
Another piece of tech, which we were able to put in place quite quickly, was around the touchpoints at the front office. Before the pandemic, we had very clunky, very manual processes at a property level. We were able then to deploy an early registration solution so that customers could pre-reg before they arrived at a hotel to reduce the number of contact points.
Clare Bastiman, VP Commercial Operations, Yotel:
Like many other hotel chains, we were forced to close many of our hotels during the pandemic. And for us, we turned that to our advantage and took it as an opportunity to review our current technology systems and the efficiency of those. We changed the PMS. We changed the RMS. We implemented new channel managers. All of this is easier to do with a closed hotel.
With the return of the business after COVID, it was so important to make sure that those systems were running as efficiently as possible. Duetto helps us to manage that efficiency with Open Pricing and the ability to price things from one system and push it out through the PMS and the channel manager, so we don't have to update rates in several different systems.
