Buying Tech: Daydream vs. Reality

Ever played Microsoft Flight Simulator on an Xbox? It’s fun. You sit in the cockpit, press buttons, take off, and land like a pro. I personally am more from the Commodore 64 time so my joysticks and games looked a bit .... well....basic I believe was the language

Back to 2025...playing...got it....let’s be real: you’re not actually flying a plane.

This is exactly what happens when hotels buy systems.

In their heads, they think they’re piloting a 747. In reality, they’re just pressing buttons on an Xbox controller.

The Dream vs. The Reality

🚀 The Dream:

  • You buy a system.
  • It magically integrates.
  • AI optimizes everything.
  • Revenue soars.
  • Life is easy.

💥 The Reality:

  • Integration is complex.
  • Your data is a mess.
  • Strategy > automation.
  • “Set it and forget it” doesn’t exist.
  • Garbage in = garbage out.

Here’s What Happens Instead

Hotels often buy the dream, not the system.
They see a slick demo, hear big promises, and think, “This will run itself.” Then… reality hits:

  • The system needs actual inputs.
  • Data issues create errors.
  • AI isn’t a miracle worker.

It’s like buying a 747 and realizing you actually have to fly it.

The right system can transform your business, but only if you know the difference between flying a real plane and pressing buttons on a game controller.

Fabi

PS: My favorite question: Tell me about the surprises I will encounter and could you connect me to the customer that really has issues right now...

It is estimated that 80+% of hotels do not use sophisticated revenue tools. Not sure about you but I think that’s a problem. It’s time we tried a different approach. We believe everyone deserves the chance to a fair fight. Regardless if they have 20 rooms or 200, branded or independent, primary or secondary location, have dedicated revenue managers or are a one man show. We believe that hiding behind the “users” in-ability is not good enough.
