The Icelandic Travel Cluster was officially founded on March 12, 2015 with the aim of strengthening the competitiveness of Icelandic tourism. It was the first forum of its kind in Iceland and had the main role of promoting collaboration, innovation and interdisciplinary communication within the industry. In the years 2012-2014, extensive mapping of the tourism industry was carried out, which led to ten key projects, including simplification of organization, product development and increased communication with educational institutions. This work laid the foundation for the formal establishment of the cluster.
