The Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality and Resort Management at the University of Memphis, created and named for the founder of Holiday Inns, has positioned itself as a prominent program providing a contemporary hospitality education, with an emphasis on lodging and resort operations. Students learn what it takes to effectively run a successful hospitality business through a mix of class work, applied industry experiences and a required internship in lodging & hospitality operations. Management and leadership skills are delivered through course work focusing on asset management, facility development, human resources, resort management, food & beverage cost controls and revenue management. Housed in a full-service, award winning Holiday Inn hotel and conference center, students see first hand service standards, business challenges and real-time operations.
The Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality & Resort Management offers a balance of hands-on experience and academics in lodging, food and beverage and resort management. By blending tourism, business and international hospitality with other functional areas our program prepares students for a 21st century career. The School is housed in a new eighty-two suite Holiday Inn with extensive banquet and restaurant facilities and is located on the University of Memphis campus. The school faculty works closely with the management team of the hotel to offer students an optimal learning environment. Our required field experience greatly enhances a students understanding of the industry. In addition to students working in the hotel on site, some of the additional work experiences our students will participate in include: Wilson Hotels, InterContinental Hotels Group, Walt Disney World, the Peabody Group, casinos properties in Tunica, Mississippi, Perkins Restaurants, Aramark, the campus contract feeder, Gate Gourmet and a myriad of other restaurants, lodging, and tourism businesses in Memphis and across the nation.
