Scandic to open new hotel in central Gothenburg

Scandic Hotels, the largest hotel company in the Nordic countries, has signed a long-term lease agreement with the property company Vasakronan. The agreement covers the operation of a new hotel in the Platinan block, part of the new urban development project Älvstaden in Gothenburg. The hotel is expected to be completed by the end of 2020.

The Faktum hotel in Gothenburg, Sweden’s second largest city, is only a hotel in the loosest sense of the word, with ten ‘rooms’ for guests who desire a unique sleeping experience. Like any hotel, guests are able to select and pay for their room, but there’s a catch: the rooms themselves happen to be the locations where Gothenburg’s estimated 3,400 homeless people commonly sleep.
