Hyatt Regency Amsterdam celebrates Grand Opening
Thursday the 8th of June was the big, festive and official Grand Opening of Hyatt Regency Amsterdam. The opening was characterised by "discovering" the hotel and the restaurant and bar Mama Makan. The present guests made a surprising tour through all the different rooms of the hotel. 400 national and international guests enjoyed the opening which was full of live music, acts, champagne, cocktails and amazing food made in the kitchen of Mama Makan.
Toni Hinterstoisser, cluster general manager of Hyatt Regency Amsterdam and Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht, introduced Paul Geertman, owner of Aedes Real Estate, who developed the project together with UBM Development. Geertman said:" In the beginning we thought about a construction period of 3,5 years. During the busy construction we noticed we could keep some parts of the old Emma children hospital. This took more time than we expected. Also we encountered archaeological remnants of the 17th century fortifications. In the end it took us 7,5 years to finish the constructions, but it was more than worth it.´
Geertman also talked about the sustainability of the hotel:" We worked hard to reach our ambitious goals to receive the highest BREEAM Score (Excellent) for hotels ever achieved in the Netherlands.
Alderman Eric van der Burg (responsible for among others the portfolio regional planning) talked about the nice developments in borough East and the contribution of the hotel to Amsterdam. "We do not congratulate only the hotel and her guests, but we also congratulate the city with this beautiful hotel, which creates at least 100 jobs and gives the neighbourhood an upgrade."
Hyatt Regency is a project of Aedes Real Estate and UBM Development. The design is from Van Dongen-Koschuch, the interior design of Concrete and Jestico & Whiles designed the rooms.
