The ibis Styles brand, renowned for its exceptional and unique designs at more than 560 hotels around the world, is growing thanks to a new addition at Munich Airport. The project officially got under way with the groundbreaking ceremony on May 30, 2023. The 358-room hotel is due to open in spring 2025. The owner of the building is Munich Airport, while Accor will operate the hotel under a management contract. The hotel will offer an open-plan lobby with a breakfast area, bar, restaurant and co-working space, as well as a gym and dedicated parking. The theme for the hotel's design will center on the Isar river in its many forms.

An inviting haven a stone's throw from the airport guests at the new ibis Styles Munich Airport will arrive to find an extraordinary and modern design, inspired by the Isar, that alludes to the nature surrounding the airport. The central themes will revolve around woodland and water. Even the blue-green rectangular façade of the ibis Styles will call to mind the interplay of light and color to be found in the forests of Bavaria. The arrangement of the louvers will not only create an interesting design effect but will also make it possible to optimize the use of sunlight and shade inside the hotel. The color scheme will continue in the interior and be combined with abstract rippling and stone structures as well as representations of woodland motifs.

The open-plan lobby will act as the heart of the hotel. It will offer a wide range of seating as well as a restaurant, a bar and a separate breakfast area, plus space for co-working. The plans also include a children's area and a self-service food market. In addition to the hotel's own parking facilities, the hotel at Munich Airport will enjoy excellent links to the public transit network.

Groundbreaking marks official start of construction

The groundbreaking ceremony took place at the site on May 30, 2023, and was attended by the partners involved. Nathalie Leroy, CFO of Munich Airport, said in her speech: "The ibis Styles Munich Airport will not only be a place of comfort and hospitality, but it will also be a key factor in the economy of the region. It will create new jobs and support local business. It will also help to consolidate Munich Airport's position as an international hub."

Thiemo Willms, Vice-President of Development at Accor in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, added, "Munich Airport is one of the most important airport hubs in all of Europe. That makes us all the more proud to be working with our partners at Munich Airport to represent not only our ibis Styles brand but also the city of Munich with our design and our services."

The new hotel will also be ideal for an overnight stay in case of an early morning flight as well as an overnight stay in case of a very late landing. With the opening of the ibis Styles Hotel, the offering directly at the airport is being extended to three hotels of different categories.
