Janu Tokyo
Aman Group to debut Janu branded Property in Tokyo
Aman, renowned for its high-end hotels and resorts, is set to introduce its new brand, Janu, with its first hotel opening in Tokyo in March 2024. Janu, which translates from Sanskrit as 'soul', aims to bring a fresh vibrancy to the hospitality sector. Already accepting reservations, the starting rate for a stay is over USD$1,300 per night.
Vlad Doronin, Chairman and CEO of Aman, highlighted the significance of Janu Tokyo as a major step in the company's growth. He envisions Janu carving out an innovative path in the industry while continuing the legacy of its esteemed counterpart, Aman.
This move by Aman reflects a broader trend in the luxury hospitality industry, where established brands are creating sub-brands to attract different market segments. For example, Langham Hotels & Resorts expanded with Cortis Hotels, a luxury collection, and the upper-midscale Ying'nFlo, which debuted in Hong Kong in October 2022.
Shangri-La Group, another industry giant, is known for its Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts but also operates the Jen brand, catering to younger travelers, and Kerry Hotels, which focuses on community integration.
The Janu Tokyo, comprising 122 rooms, is part of the Azabudai Hills development, a new area flanked by the Roppongi Hills, Toranomon Hills, and Ark Hills. This project, developed by Mori Building Co. Ltd., features Japan's tallest skyscraper, extensive green spaces by Thomas Heatherwick, and a variety of offices, residences, educational facilities, galleries, and over 150 luxury retail and dining spaces.
Janu, uniquely situated within the Residence A Tower of this development, was designed by Pelli Clarke & Partners. The hotel includes eight dining options, two boutiques, and a vast 43,000-square-foot wellness center, with guest rooms located between the sixth and thirteenth floors.
