Populus Seattle to Open in Spring 2025, Marking a New Era of Environmentally Forward Hospitality

Populus Hotels, a carbon-positive hotel collection committed to environmentally responsible hospitality, has announced the upcoming opening of its second property—Populus Seattle—set to welcome guests in late spring 2025. Located in Seattle's historic Pioneer Square, the new hotel is a transformative adaptive reuse project that breathes new life into the 1907 Westland Building, offering 120 rooms and a guest experience deeply rooted in the spirit of the Pacific Northwest.

As part of a broader vision to anchor one of the country's most significant adaptive reuse developments, Populus Seattle is designed to reflect the city's ecological richness while honoring its urban heritage. Its design elements—interior spaces, curated art, and rooftop gardens—draw from the region's landscapes, materials, and textures, aiming to provide a balanced atmosphere where sustainability and aesthetics meet. The property will also introduce Pioneer Square's first rooftop bar, a signature restaurant, and community-focused public spaces.

Populus Seattle is managed by Aparium Hotel Group and developed by Urban Villages, a company recognized for integrating sustainability into real estate development. Together, they bring a philosophy that goes beyond green building practices, committing to lifecycle carbon accounting and climate-conscious operations. Through Populus Hotels' signature One Night, One Tree Program, a tree will be planted for every guest night booked, extending the brand's tangible commitment to positive environmental impact.

What distinguishes Populus Seattle is its carbon positive designation—it sequesters more carbon than it emits over its full lifecycle, including construction and daily operations. The hotel achieves this through a combination of adaptive reuse, carbon offset strategies, renewable energy usage, and innovations in waste reduction, such as its use of BioGreen360 technology for food composting. As a result, Populus Seattle positions itself not only as a place to stay but also as a model for how hospitality can support broader environmental goals.

While the hotel's ecological strategy sets a new benchmark, the guest experience remains at the core of the offering. Thoughtfully appointed rooms and suites, immersive public spaces, and food and beverage programming designed around local sourcing and sustainability will appeal to leisure and business travelers alike. Salt Harvest, the signature restaurant, will offer hearth-driven cuisine, while The Solarium and rooftop bar aim to become key social destinations within the city.

Populus Seattle is within walking distance of major cultural and transportation hubs, including Pike Place Market and the cruise terminal, making it an attractive option for both international tourists and locals. With its layered approach to sustainability, cultural engagement, and design, the hotel is set to contribute meaningfully to Seattle's hospitality landscape.

Populus Hotels is a collection of carbon positive hotels centered around a deep and authentic reverence for the natural world. Each hotel is designed to reflect and celebrate the region's locale and natural beauty, while serving as a new benchmark for environmentally forward hospitality.
