Mendocino Cove

Created by hospitality partners Teresa Raffo and Chris Hougie, Mendocino Cove was envisioned as a place where guests can slow down and reconnect with nature, with one another, and with the restorative rhythm of the Northern California coast. The property offers immersive outdoor experiences, featuring eight professional pickleball courts, wellness amenities like our Nordic inspired spa including hot tub, sauna and cold pour, direct walking access to Pine Beach, gathering spaces, and a restaurant and bar concept set to open alongside the resort.

The opening marks the latest evolution for Raffo and Hougie, whose Mendocino Grove glamping retreat helped redefine modern outdoor hospitality on the North Coast nearly a decade ago. With Mendocino Cove, the pair expands upon that vision through a more expansive resort experience that balances stillness and play, sophistication and ease.

A Coastal Retreat

Located 6 miles north of the village of Mendocino, the property sits along a dramatic bluff side setting framed by towering cypress trees, coastal gardens, and sweeping Pacific views. Meandering pathways lead guests through landscaped gathering areas and directly down to secluded Pine Beach, creating an atmosphere that feels both intimate and deeply connected to the surrounding landscape.

The design narrative throughout Mendocino Cove draws inspiration from the raw textures and atmospheric beauty of the Northern California coast, showcasing weathered woods, organic materials, soft coastal palettes, and contemporary lines to create spaces that feel warm, understated, and restorative.

Accommodations

Mendocino Cove will open with 40 suites across two distinct buildings, Cypress and Vista Cove, each offering its own interpretation of modern coastal living.

The Cypress Building includes 16 accommodations comprised of:

• 11 King Suites with king beds and daybeds 
• 2 One-Bedroom Suites with queen beds, pull-out sofas, and wet bars 
• 2 Double Queen Suites 
• 1 ADA-accessible suite 

Inspired by the nostalgia of classic California roadside lodges, the Cypress suites have been thoughtfully restored with a relaxed sensibility.

Vista Cove offers 24 suites, including:

• 19 King Suites 
• 4 One-Bedroom Queen Suites 
• 1 ADA-accessible suite 

Designed in collaboration with San Francisco-based designer Marie Fisher, who led the design of both buildings, Cove interiors incorporate natural textures, warm woods, Waterworks bath fixtures, soaking tubs, gas fireplaces, original artwork, reading nooks, and private verandas that frame the surrounding coastline and gardens.

Across the property, accommodations are designed to evoke a sense of calm and residential ease, pairing layered textures and natural light with thoughtful details that encourage guests to fully settle into the pace of the coast.

Wellness & Recreation

Wellness and outdoor living sit at the heart of the Mendocino Cove experience. Upon opening, guests will have access to a collection of restorative wellness amenities including a hot tub, dry sauna, cold pour, fitness offerings, and massage treatments. Shaped around the concept of active restoration, the resort encourages guests to move fluidly between relaxation and recreation. 

Outdoor experiences include a labyrinth, direct beach access, nearby coastal hiking trails, communal fire pits, lawn games, and landscaped gathering spaces designed for connection and slow living.

Newly added to the property, the labyrinth is a sacred walking path for meditation and mindful reflection, designed by William Grace to invite grounding, inner stillness, and a deeper connection with surrounding gorgeous redwood trees.

The property is also home to eight world class professional pickleball courts where guests are invited for open play, clinics, lessons, retreats, and social programming for players of all levels.

Dining

Set within Mendocino Cove’s coastal meadow, Frolic is the resort’s relaxed restaurant, bar, and gathering place, inspired by the wild, dreamlike beauty of the Mendocino Coast. Its name evokes freedom, play, and unhurried joy, inviting guests to linger over coffee, breakfast, drinks, and seasonal bites amid tall grasses, towering cypress trees, ocean air, and the restorative rhythm of the coast. 

Designed by local Mendocino designer Lisa Haines of Den Modern, Frolic pairs contemporary coastal style with authentic pieces from the restaurant’s past, including its iconic vintage De Sede leather snake sofa. Warm wood furnishings, cool coastal tones, and thoughtfully layered details preserve the spirit of the original space while reimagining it for a new era. Upon opening, guests can enjoy coffee and breakfast at Frolic or have it delivered directly to their rooms. A full bar and tapas menu will debut in fall 2026.
