Byrknes Ocean Resort

Byrknes Ocean Resort to Open in 2027, Joining Nordic Hotels & Resorts

A new hotel and leisure complex, Byrknes Ocean Resort, is currently under construction in Norway. At the mouth of the Sognefjord, the coming 77-room resort will open up a stretch of coastline to the world, complete with dining, meetings and wellbeing. The hotel is scheduled for completion in autumn 2027.

On the windswept shores of Western Norway, a new destination is taking shape. Byrknes Ocean Resort will be a premium destination for serene escapes, exceptional dining, and a close connection to nature. Once it opens, it will extend the Nordic Hotels & Resorts map into the municipality of Gulen, where the group has not previously operated.

Local Ownership, Local Flavors

With access to world-class seafood and deep roots in Byrknes's fishing and farming traditions, food will be central to the stay. Seasonal menus built on high-quality local ingredients will be the centerpiece of the new restaurant.

Behind the culinary program is Michelin-starred chef Christopher Haatuft, one of Norway's most visionary contemporary chefs. As chef-owner of Lysverket in Bergen, he has earned a Michelin star for his seafood-driven menus that pair technical precision with bold, flavor-forward cooking. At Byrknes Ocean Resort, he intends to take diners through a Basque culinary philosophy centered on fish and shellfish, with fire and grilling at its heart.

Byrknes Ocean Resort was developed based on a long-term vision to create a unique coastal destination. It is owned by Stein Inge Larsen, known for his strong local commitment to Byrknes.

The resort will comprise 77 rooms, a restaurant, a bar, a spa, and a conference area. Set directly on the coastline, it can be reached by both car and boat. From the north, boats run from Selje and Flåm/Sogndal, while a fast ferry operates from Bergen in the south; both services run twice daily. By car, the hotel is a two-hour drive from Bergen and the same distance from Førde.

Byrknes Ocean Resort will become part of Nordic Hotels & Resorts, Strawberry’s portfolio of independent hotels.
