Ulrich Johannwille

Dr. Ulrich Johannwille will become the Chief Financial Officer and Director of Human Resources of Steigenberger Hotels AG when he takes over from Matthias Heck on 1 November 2020.

Steigenberger Hotels AG brings together five separate hotel brands under the umbrella name of Deutsche Hospitality, and Matthias Heck has been part of the company's executive management team since 2005. He has been closely involved in shaping corporate strategy for the past 15 years, a period during which revenues and results have continuously improved. Mr. Heck has also been instrumental in driving forward international alignment over the last decade. Significant developments in this regard have included Deutsche Hospitality's entry to the Middle Eastern and Scandinavian markets. Most recently, he has worked in conjunction with his fellow Management Board member Thomas Willms to guide Deutsche Hospitality through the process of transferring shareholder ownership to the Huazhu Hotels Group.

The task of achieving integration and transformation has now been successfully launched. In the meantime, Matthias Heck and his team have led Deutsche Hospitality through the current corona pandemic and reopened the group's hotels. As Director of Human Resources, Mr. Heck took early action to instigate a programme to revolutionise the company's culture. This extended over several years and incorporated every single employee, the works councils and representatives of all social interest groups. The concept of the DHfamily is now an integral part of daily working life at Deutsche Hospitality. Matthias Heck has now announced that his retirement will take effect on 1 November 2020.

Dr. Ulrich Johannwille will formally take up his appointment to the position of CFO and Director of Human Resources on 1 November 2020. Since 2006, Mr. Johannwille has held a number of senior membership roles at Condor Flugdienst GmbH. He has spent more than ten years as Chief Financial Officer and also acted as the airline's Head of Controlling from 2006 to 2009. He assumed an additional responsibility between 2013 and 2019, when he took charge of the finance divisions of the four international Thomas Cook Group Airlines. Prior to working for Condor, Ulrich Johannwille completed six years as a management consultant with McKinsey & Company, where he ultimately rose to the status of Associate Principal. He obtained a doctorate in Business Administration (Dr. rer. pol) from the University of Münster in the year 2000.
