Asier Baquero has been appointed as General Manager at Occidental Sharjah Grand

Barcelo Hotel Group has appointed Asier Baquero as the general manager of Occidental Sharjah Grand Hotel. Baquero has years of experience in Barcelo, though this is his first post in the Middle East.

Asier Baquero

Baquero began his career over 22 years ago in his native home of Spain. He has served as general manager and deputy manager across several resorts and city-based hotels under various international chains in the United Kingdom, Spain, Guatemala, Cuba and Mexico.

From 2007 to 2009, he was GM of the Hiberus Hotel in Spain, later joining the Villa del Mar Hotel until 2011. From 2013 to 2016, he worked with Melia Hotels first as GM of the Tryp Cayo Coco in Cuba and later as GM of the Melia Santa Maria Complex also in Cuba.

He re-joined Barcelo in 2016 as general manager at Barceló Lanzarote and then moved on to lead the Occidental Menorca team before settling into his new role at Occidental Sharjah Grand Hotel.

Asier Baquero is an alumnus of The Center For Hospitality Research (CHR) at The Cornell School Of Hotel Administration .
