Online Event
HVS, along with our friends at Bird & Bird in Germany, are delighted to present our second webinar together, focused on the German hotel sector, on Wednesday 17 June at 8:30 am (UK) / 9:30 am (CET). We will be discussing “Hotel Insolvencies in Germany: Distress or Opportunity?”, with a focus on what investors, owners, operators and lenders need to know. This webinar will be held in English.
Recent insolvencies such as REVO Group, Achat Hotels and Lindner Group have already had a marked effect on the German hotel investment sector. In this webinar, we will examine whether there are common causes or circumstances behind such insolvencies, and what legal, financial and operational implications arise for investors, owners, operators and lenders. We will also consider whether certain types of operational structures are particularly vulnerable in the current economic and geopolitical climate, and whether there are certain business models that prove to be more suitable or resilient. In short, have recent insolvencies and the hotels’ ensuing restructuring caused any shift in the appetites of investors, banks and/or operators for hotel investments in Germany, either negative or positive? And what are the key lessons and opportunities for investors, property owners and operators?
We will kick off with two short presentations, by Elie Kaufman, senior counsel with Bird & Bird in Frankfurt, who will discuss the legal aspects of hotel insolvency, and Tim Barbrook, head of debt restructuring at HVS London. who will cover the key financing issues. This will be followed by a lively panel session moderated by Russell Kett of HVS, for which Elie and Tim will be joined by:
- Asli Kutlucan, CEO Europe at Adina Hotels
- Maria Puetz-Willems, Founder and Editor-in-chief of HospitalityInside
- Simge Kocabayoglu, Legal Counsel for IHG Hotels & Resorts
- Meinhard Kirchner Legal Executive at Novum Hospitality
