General Dynamics Communication Systems (GDCS) has more than 40 years of experience and proven performance in telecommunications and information technology related systems. Headquartered in Taunton, Mass., GDCS employs approximately 2,000 people in locations throughout the world. In 2000, GDCS had sales of $501 million.
General Dynamics Interactive (GDI), a part of GDCS, brings its many years of experience to providing integrated solutions for reliable, complex communication and Information Technology systems for its broad spectrum of customers. Its new IntrigueSM Multimedia System is a digital, interactive information and entertainment system, delivering high-speed Internet access, electronic commerce, video-on-demand, and real time audio and video communications systems over customer networks. In the constantly changing world of technology, what's next can be anything from distance learning to housekeeping services to airline schedules and video teleconferencing. Initial target markets are hotels, hospitals, corporate users, railways and cruise lines.
GDCS' experience with integrating reliable, secure, complex communications and information systems for military customers is being translated into commercial applications like Intrigue. For example, GDCS is applying its best practices, skilled labor and state-of-the-art digital factory to integrating equipment for high-assurance civilian telephone system central offices and Internet service providers.
GDCS is A Sun Microsystems Master Value Added Integrator. In that role, it was tapped by Siemens to integrate Sun's and other vendor products into its 21st century Fast Feature Platform II. GDCS completed the design and production process in just nine weeks, enabling Siemens to get to market rapidly with a powerful, scalable telecommunications engine in a customized package.
