nSTREAMS Introduces In Room Communicator System for RF Back Channel Video On Demand Ordering
SANTA CLARA, Calif / nSTREAMS Technologies, Inc. announced today that it is introducing its In Room Communicator System in NAB show in Las Vegas. The In Room Communicator System is designed to be used in the hospitality or educational environments to provide interactive video on demand ordering utilizing RF back channel.
The In Room Communicator System is designed to complement nSTREAMS' hospitality and education turnkey digital video on demand head-end system. The In Room Communicator System utilizes RF back channel to communicate between the guest room or classroom and the turnkey system head-end. It eliminates the need of additional wiring as well as the use of telephone lines. It essentially is a cable modem in a closed circuit CATV environment.
The In Room Communicator System has enough extensibility to offer new services aside from providing video on demand ordering. By adding a remote keyboard, the In Room Communicator System can support nSTREAMS' Interactive Server head-end for Internet access. It has an auxiliary port for third part equipment communication and can be easily expanded to support multiple third party in room equipment.
nSTREAMS has performed extensive market research before designing the In Room Communicator System. The extensibility nature of this system enables nSTREAMS and third party in room equipment manufacturer to add new and more exciting services to the guest rooms and classrooms. nSTREAMS is and willing to work with third party in room equipment manufacturer to define a communication standard to provide a coherent communication mechanism between guest rooms/classrooms and various head-end equipment.
The In Room Communicator is scheduled for volume shipment in mid June.
