Ibertech Purchases Hughes Consulting

HURST, TX — Ibertech, Inc., creators of Aloha POS, recently announced that it has acquired Hughes Consulting, Inc., which has developed web-based software solutions featuring polling, data warehousing, data retrieval and back office reporting for nearly four years. Ibertech management said that this action furthers its goal of providing service to multi-site operations that look toward enterprise-wide solutions as "must-haves" for the new millennium. This acquisition marks the third one completed by Ibertech within one year: the first was System Design Group in April of 1998, followed by the American Scheduling Company seven months later.

"Ibertech is delighted to incorporate the Hughes product and the people that brought this revolutionary product to the marketplace into the Aloha POS family," said Bill Grant, Ibertech's vice president of sales. "Many of the MIS professionals that have previewed the product believe that Ibertech has leapfrogged the various 'enterprise' initiatives currently being introduced into the marketplace."

Hughes Consulting's president, Jeff Hughes, explained the way this enterprise solution works: the system is designed to consolidate information for multiple restaurant chains to a central location, where the information is made available to users via a web browser. This information is also integrated into companies' general ledger systems to reduce costs and improve data integrity by reducing manual data entry. Information from the point-of-sale solution and back office packages can be polled to a central site, via the Internet, and be accessible to management via a web browser from anywhere in the world.

Grant said that the significance of this enterprise product is tremendous not only for Ibertech, but also for the entire industry. "This product changes the paradigm of information technology for restaurants. So few IT departments are delivering proactive information to their 'customers' - the operators. The Hughes system provides headquarter, regional, and store level mana gement with web browsers which 'slice and dice' financial, employee, product, scheduling, staffing, forecasting, inventory, and human resources information."

He continued, calling the product a "proactive" tool, which allows management to make operational and staffing decisions immediately rather than waiting to review data.

"One of the most fascinating concepts is the management alert features within the system," Grant explained. "For example, if I were a multi-unit manager, I could quickly sign on to my laptop from any location and receive 'alerts' based upon information deemed to be critical. I could see information such as the fact that I've got three employees about to enter overtime based upon tomorrow's schedule, two new hires for whom I need to sign off, and a location that did not meet today's forecast."

Jeff Hughes said the acquisition would provide point-of-sale customers desiring an enterprise system with the opportunity to experience greater ease in reporting. "It's going to let all multi-unit customers combine and consolidate information much easier," he explained. "Also, long-term rollouts of changes and modifications to customers' systems will be more efficient because everything is done automatically."
