Tut Systems Announces Next Generation Expresso SMS/OCS Service Delivery Platform for Multi-Tenant Properties

Tut's Subcriber Management Systems and Operations Center Software to Be Integrated into Tut's IntelliPOP MTU(TM) Multi-Service Broadband System

PLEASANT HILL, Calif., June 6 / Tut Systems, Inc. TUTS, a leading provider of multi-service broadband systems for multi-tenant residential and commercial buildings, today announced its next generation Expresso SMS/OCS, subscriber management system and operation center software system. The new Expresso SMS/OCS enables service providers to offer multiple and differentiated revenue-generating services from one Network Operation Center (NOC) and...

Expresso SMS/OCS is a robust platform that gives service providers the ability to generate additional revenues from their networks and give their customers more service options. These services include -- multiple bandwidth options, Internet applications such as web site hosting, video streaming and video conferencing, VPN support for telecommuters, road warriors and linking multiple corporate offices, and additional billing options such as recurrent credit card billing.

Designed to significantly lower network management costs, the Expresso OCS platform will give service providers the ability to manage up to 600,000 individual subscribers, all from one central location or NOC. Specifically, Expresso OCS will allow service providers to set policy at the group, the property or subscriber level for users connected to up to 300 remotely distributed SMS systems, with each SMS supporting up to 2000 users. With this capability, a service provider could support multiple properties in multiple cities all from one centralized location, diminishing the need for costly service provider truck rolls and on-site deployments -- thereby lowering network operation costs.

Many of Tut's service provider customers have been testing Expresso SMS/OCS' new functionality including Darwin Networks, BRE Properties' Velocity HSI, and Newcom Limited.

Tut's Expresso SMS/OCS software is a core technology that will be integrated into Tut's recently announced IntelliPOP MTU system and is compatible with Tut's entire Expresso family of products including Expresso MDU and Expresso MDU Lite.

"The Expresso SMS/OCS is a very strategic component to our end-to-end solution which will allow us to maintain our leadership position in the multi-tenant equipment market," said Sal D'Auria, Tut's President and CEO. "The ability to deliver multiple services while lowering service providers' costs ensures service provider profitability while delivering services consumers demand. In the coming months, this important functionality will be integrated into our next generation IntelliPOP MTU service platform."

About Expresso SMS/OCS

Expresso SMS is a hardened server appliance that provides the range of IP services and user-level security required in a large-scale deployment. Supporting IP address management, IP multicasting, VPNs, multiple billing options, portal redirection, firewalls, authorization, authentication, accounting and bandwidth management, it provides end users with seamless plug-and-play Internet access without changes to client software or configuration from any remote location. Its NOC software companion product, Expresso OCS, equips solution providers with the remote management tools, billing and record keeping capabilities they need to manage a large distributed network. It operates in conjunction with service providers' back-office systems through the use of open database interfaces such as ODBC. By centralizing policy management and database functions at the NOC, OCS enables solution providers to significantly lower their cost of ownership and maximize profits as they expand deployment to hundreds of distributed systems.

The Expresso SMS/OCS is designed to work with industry standard solutions such as Ethernet, DSL, wireless networks and with third party virtual LAN (VLAN)-enabled switches such as those available from Allied Telesyn, Cisco and Nortel. Tut's Expresso subscriber management system is also compatible with RADIUS authentication and accounting used by virtually all leading Internet service providers.
