Grand Prize Winners Announced At IH/M&RS Gold Key Awards Ceremony

NEW YORK, NY, November 13, 2000... Grand Prize Winners of the 20th annual Gold Key Awards for Excellence in Hospitality Design were announced this morning at The Waldorf=Astoria in New York City. In total, six Grand Prize Winners and 12 Finalists were recognized during the Awards Breakfast, which was sponsored by Avora FR, flame-resistant fiber for interiors, and held in conjunction with the 86th International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show® (IH/M&RS).
Sponsored by Hospitality Design and Lodging, the Gold Key Awards Competition recognizes designers of restaurants and lodging properties for excellence in hospitality design. Competition categories included: Restaurants — Seating To 110; Restaurants — Seating Over 110; Guest Rooms; Suites; Lobby/Reception Area; and Senior Living Facility.

Judges for the 2000 Gold Key Awards were Alexandra Champalimaud of Alexandra Champalimaud & Associates, Inc.; Jeffrey Beers of Jeffrey Beers International; Mary-Jean Eastman of Perkins Eastman Architects, PC and Didier Picquot of The Pierre, New York. The judging took place on July 21, 2000, at the Headquarters of the Hotel Association of New York City, Inc.
As an additional feature of the Awards Ceremony, internationally acclaimed architect David S. Rockwell of The Rockwell Group delivered the keynote address, which focussed on the future of design. The Rockwell Group is world-renowned for providing architectural design for a wide range of projects, including restaurants, entertainment venues, and retail, commercial residential and performing arts spaces.
A portion of the proceeds from the Awards Breakfast will be donated to the Network of Executive Women in Hospitality (NEWH). The NEWH brings together professionals from all facets of the hospitality industry by providing opportunities for education, professional development and networking. A non-profit organization founded in Los Angeles in 1984, NEWH has chapters nationwide, as well as a growing international membership.
The International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show is sponsored by the American Hotel & Motel Association; the New York State Hospitality & Tourism Association, Inc.; and the Hotel Association of New York City, Inc. The Show, which is managed by George Little Management, Inc. (GLM), featured a record 2,000 hospitality industry suppliers and attracted approximately 58,000 in total trade attendance.
