Ositis's New Internet Access Solution for Hotels, Airports & Others Eliminates the Need for User Configuration; Users Just Plug & Surf

AccessNow VBN Solves Major Connectivity Problem for Business Travelers

Las Vegas, NV (May 8, 2001) - Ositis Software, a leading developer of connectivity and Internet access technologies for Window platforms, today announced AccessNow VBN (Visitor-Based Network), a solution that enables hotels, cafes, airports, copy shops, conference facilities and other sites that commonly host business travelers to offer instant high-speed Internet connections without requiring user configuration to connect to the facility's...

The solution — an industry first — also allows mobile workers to access the Internet without changing their network configuration from remote locations where the product is installed. The product will be available in hardware, software, wired and wireless versions when it is released in August.

Major Hurdle for Business Travelers

Remote Internet access is a persistent problem for business travelers who are dependent on the facilities of the hospitality industry to stay connected away from the office. For example, while many hotels now offer high-speed Internet access, it is often difficult or impossible for users to successfully connect, primarily due to configuration challenges. One prominent hotel chain that is fully wired recently reported that only 6% of its guests are taking advantage of the service, despite the fact that most of its member hotels have T1 lines offering speeds up to 50 times faster than ordinary phone lines.

No Configuration of IP Addresses, Subnets or Gateways

AccessNow VBN's patent-pending technology helps solve connectivity problems by offering instant Internet access with no settings to change, no IP addresses to obtain, and no subnets or gateways to negotiate to properly configure a user's laptop for the facility's network. Users simply plug into the closest drop — or enter into a designated zone for wireless access — and they are immediately connected. The only requirement is an Ethernet connection or an 802.11b wireless card in the user's laptop.

Easy, One-Piece Installation

Consisting of a tube that reconciles the disparate configurations of the user's laptop and the facility's network and then manages the Internet connection, AccessNow VBN sits between the facility's Internet pipeline and the hub or switch that connects all the rooms or access points. It is also available in software and rackmount versions. Only one system is required per subnet or network, depending on the network configuration. The product is particularly useful for sites where no end-user support is available.

Availability

AccessNow VBN is scheduled to ship in August 2001. The product will be distributed directly by Ositis and Ositis VARs at 1-888-946-7769 (US), 1-925-225-8900 (international), or online at www.ositis.com.
