Hong Kong PolyU launches The Triple A's - laurels of the Hospitality Industry

The School of Hotel and Tourism Management of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and the leading trade magazine, HOTEL Asia Pacific, together have launched the Annual Achiever Awards (The Triple A's) to accolade distinguished personnel in the hospitality industry in Asia Pacific. Seeing the fact that Asia Pacific is the world's strongest growing area in tourism, Prof. Chon said the initiative of setting up a regional award was warmly received by the trade. He added, "Many industry players deem it a way to acknowledge the profession of hospitality and its importance towards the development of local economy."

The Triple A's awards comprise two categories - Achiever and Young Achiever awards.

The Achiever awards are set up for industry members, aged 31 or above, who have demonstrated ongoing commitment and contribution to the industry; while the Young Achiever awards target for incumbents, aged below 31, who have displayed outstanding self-development efforts and ability to contribute to the industry in the future. Open nominations are welcomed for the Young Achiever awards. Candi dates of the Achiever awards have to be named by a judging panel.

Reputable scholars are invited from around Asia Pacific to form the judging panel. The panel members are:

  • Prof. Jiang Du, President of Beijing Second Foreign Language University, China;
  • Prof. Cathy Hsu, Professor of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management, PolyU, Hong Kong;
  • Prof. Brian King, Head of School, the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Marketing, Victoria University of Technology, Australia;
  • Prof. David Leong, Associate Professor of Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore;
  • Mr Devandra Singhai, Director of Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management, India; and
  • Dr Fanny Vong, President of Institute For Tourism Studies, Macao.
